SUBANG JAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke urged Malaysians to celebrate their differences and cherish unity this Christmas, emphasising the importance of maintaining harmony despite the country’s challenges. Speaking at the Christmas high-tea reception organised by the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) at the Full Gospel Tabernacle on December 21, Loke highlighted the need for national unity, especially in light of the economic, political, and religious difficulties Malaysia faces.
“We must celebrate our diversity together. This is crucial to maintaining Malaysia’s unity,” Loke said, adding that there are forces attempting to divide the nation. “We cannot allow any force to destabilise or divide us,” he asserted, stressing the importance of bridging divides not only between races and religions but also between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak.
Loke also reiterated government policies, such as the extension of the airfare cap during festive seasons, now covering four days instead of three, to support travel between Peninsular and East Malaysia.
As Christians in Malaysia celebrate the season, Loke encouraged them to celebrate differences and pray for a better future for the country. The reception also featured speeches by CFM chairman Very Rev Cor Episcopa Philip Thomas and performances by gospel choirs.
The CFM’s yearly high-tea event, which brings together the Catholic Church, the Council of Churches of Malaysia, and the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship, celebrates the love, peace, and joy of Christmas, symbolising the birthday of Jesus.
