Parishioners of the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Health, Kg Pandan, surprised Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam with a celebratory cake on October 6, following the Sunday Mass to commemorate the 29th anniversary of his episcopal ordination.
Archbishop Emeritus Murphy was ordained as bishop on October 4, 1995, and later became the third metropolitan archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur on May 29, 2003. He retired on Dec 13, 2013, upon reaching the age of 75 and subsequently took up residence at the chapel in Kg Pandan.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Teng OFM Cap, with Archbishop Emeritus Murphy concelebrating. The retired prelate joyfully cut the anniversary cake alongside the chapel’s children, while Fr Michael, offered a special prayer in his honour.
The celebration continued with a simple fellowship in the chapel courtyard, allowing parishioners to come together and celebrate this special occasion.
Archbishop Emeritus Murphy is well-known for his steadfast commitment to social justice, his deep concern for migrants, and his role as a promoter of interfaith dialogue. His profound compassion has left a lasting impact on both the community and the Church.
