KUALA LUMPUR: St John Paul II said, “The most beautiful and stirring adventure that can happen to you is the personal meeting with Jesus…”

In October, teenagers from the St John Paul II - JCC Teen Ministry heeded his words and created space and time to meet Jesus through activities in commemoration of the feast of St John Paul II.

They met every day in the nine days leading up to the feast that fell on October 22.

They prayed the Novena to St John Paul II and the Divine Mercy chaplet. Laughter and chatter never lacked when they gathered together in Jesus’ name.

Another activity initiated in celebration of this great saint was a baking exercise. The challenge was to recreate St John Paul II’s favourite cream puff which was given a new name by the Polish. It’s called kremówka papieska (kreh-MOOF-kah pahPYESS-kah) which in English means Papal Cream Cake. The teenagers went right to work, creating it in their own homes and submitting their time-lapse videos which were then compiled and uploaded on social media to share with everyone on how easy it is to make and what fun it can be doing it together as a community.

On Oct 22, Fr Dominic Tan invited the youth for the Eucharistic Celebration in Jesus Caritas Church. Being present physically at Mass was a real treat, though some were saddened as they were not fully vaccinated and so had to catch it online instead. In Fr Dominic’s sermon, he talked about JP2’s motto, Totus Tuus which in essence is – I am completely yours. He explained that the journey to become a person who is completely for Jesus is a difficult one, but not impossible.

Through and in ministry, it is a little easier because it holds space for each other. It was a very enlightening sermon. After Mass, those online stayed on to play games and chat while those who had met at Mass dined out and had fellowship. Being together helped the teenagers recall the words of their patron saint - “Remember that you are never alone, Christ is with you on your journey every day of your lives! He has called you and chosen you to live in the freedom of the children of God.” It was truly a month that helped them savour and experience God’s presence, joy and laughter in each other. The journey continues in living and serving each other in community with Christ our Lord.— By JP2 Teens Ministry
