PETALING JAYA (Herald Malaysia): In tandem with Pope Francis’ exhortation — The Joy of the Gospel and its mention that the Catholic Church does not destroy cultures, the Church of the Assumption took the initiative to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival amidst parishioners of all races, to give thanks to the Lord for the harvest He provides for us daily.

More than 180 children turned up for the walk around the church, the biblical quiz and merry singing accompanied by Fr Patrick Boudville and Fr .Andrew Volle. The church was decorated with lanterns around its premises with supporting artwork that carried Bible verses to remind us of how the Lord provides for us. Madam Lee, who was there with her three grandchildren, shared that “I find St Paul’s words in Philippians 4:19 comforting and assuring,” she said with a smile while pointing out the artwork.

Parents too, had their fair share of fun with a live band performance and lots of laughter drawn from cute and humorous replies from their children during the quiz. One parent quipped, “I didn’t know the answer to most of the questions but am humoured by the accurate responses from the little ones!”

Fr Patrick brought the event to a close early to accommodate parents with school-going kids. He prayed and shared that Jesus too, carries a lantern when He knocks at our door. There were special blessings for those who were going to sit for their UPSR examinations as well.

The singing and dancing continued on for those without the regular Monday obligations which saw families bonding and new friendships being fostered.
