Apostolic Nunciature in Malaysia

1.0 His Excellency Archbishop Joseph Salvador Marino, has completed his term of office as the first Apostolic Nuncio to Malaysia and Timor-Leste and Apostolic Delegate to Brunei Darussalam (20132019) and will be leaving Malaysia on November 17, 2019.

His Excellency has been appointed the President of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and will take up residence in Rome.

We would like to thank His Excellency for his significant service and contribution to the Catholic Church in Malaysia as the first Apostolic Nuncio and would like to congratulate him on his new appointment.

2.0 The Very Reverend Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, who was First Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Apostolic Nunciature in Malaysia and Timor-Leste, has been appointed the Chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Apostolic Nunciature in Malaysia with effect from November 17 until the accreditation of the new Apostolic Nuncio.

Monsignor Marco Sprizzi brings with him a vast experience in the diplomatic service, having served in the following countries: India, Nepal, Brazil, United States of America, Korea, Mongolia and most recently in Malaysia and Timor-Leste; as well as in academia.

Monsignor Sprizzi also possesses a double doctorate in Civil Law and Dogmatic Theology and postgraduate degrees in various fields, including journalism and canon law.

We congratulate Monsignor Sprizzi on his appointment and wish him the very best during his tenure.
