As the season of Advent draws to a close, we are all ready to usher in the Season of Christmas — a season of great joy as we await the birth of our Saviour, Jesus the Christ.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel, God is with us.

That was the theme for this year’s Children’s Christmas Party organised by the English Pastoral Committee (EPC) of the Church of St Theresa Melaka, spearheaded by Fr Edward Rayappan. It was held on the 20th of December 2014, at Holiday Inn Melaka. A total of 150 children from ages 7 to 15 attended the said function. Among them were 30 children (Tamil speaking) from the orphanage ‘Pusat Jagaan Kasih Sayang Angel’. The party began at 8.30am and finished at 1.00pm.

There was a clown and a magician to entertain the children. The youths of St Theresa (STEY – CFM) were also there to entertain the children with a sketch and to sing Christmas carols. In the words of Fr Eddie, “they were very good”.

All the children who were at the party received Christmas presents and a goodie bag each. There was a lucky draw and some of the lucky ones went back with extra. 3 children went back with broad smiles when they bagged the first three prizes, a bicycle each. The cost of the party was sponsored by donors who wish to remain anonymous. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them, for without their generosity, these children would not have had such a wonderful celebration. We must also thank Holiday Inn Melaka for their generous flow of food. All the children and adults had more than they could eat.

In his closing speech, Fr Eddie reminded the children to bring the joy and love that they had experienced back to their homes and to share it with the members of their family.

If the children were “strangers” to one another when they came in at 8.30am, they were certainly no longer “strangers” when they left the party. The objective of the Children’s Christmas Party had been achieved.

A fitting end to a wonderful celebration.
