Christians gather for interdenominational carol service in Sitiawan

PERAK: For the first time, the Catholic Church of St Francis De Sales, Sitiawan, Perak, invited other Christian denominations to take part in its “Carol Nite” at the church recently.
About 400 parishioners, guests and family members turned up for the gala Christmas event with a welcome speech by host Rv Vincent Paul, who reminded the congregation that Christmas was a time of joy, love and peace to all mankind.
Grace Methodist Church pastor Simon Ling led an opening prayer in Chinese. He said that this event helped to foster better relations between the denominations and he hoped that it would become an ongoing event with the respective churches taking turns to play host.
Holy Cross Anglican Church pastor Peter Jacob conducted the pre-dinner thanksgiving prayer to the congregation, which included parishioners from Wesley Methodist Church and special guest Rv David Lourdes from the Church of St Mary, Tapah, Perak.
The programme for the night included group performances from the various zones of the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) of the Catholic Church of Manjung, and Methodist, Anglican and Wesley church choirs.
The live rendition of Christmas carols were sung in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil, Kadazan Dusun, Iban and Korean.
Two men and a woman from Myanmar were so engrossed with the concert that they approached the MC for the night and volunteered to perform in Burmese.
All present were treated to a scrumptious curry buffet dinner and beverages, before the event came to a climax with an impressive fireworks display.--The Malaysian Insider
