KOTA KINABALU: Continuing its vision of bringing teens closer to Christ, Life Teen Sacred Heart Cathedral Kota Kinabalu launched their new semester, themed Glorify recently. Led by their new coordinator, Kimberly Rose Stephens- Tamayo, Life Teen unveiled the theme, which is also used by Life Teen International, in front of 30 teens who were in attendance during its first Life Night at Sacred Heart Parish Centre Room F6, on Feb 13.
The Life Night started with praise and worship before the talk by Kimberly, who explained the theme to the eager teens. Sharing the reason behind the new theme, Kimberly said Life Teen SHCKK, which entered its 11th year of ministry, chose Glorify because it correlates with the message of the Year of Mercy. “How do we glorify God, our merciful Father? It is by being merciful ourselves. Be merciful, not only towards others, but with ourselves, too, through our body, words, actions and through our suffering. The only way to show mercy is to know mercy first, that is, by getting to know Jesus who is the ‘Face of Mercy.’”
The Year of Mercy is not only about mercy, but also about forgiveness, repentance, conversion and love, she said. Life Teen Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu is a youth ministry that serves teenagers aged between 13 to 18 years old. The ministry was launched in the Sacred Heart Cathedral KK on Nov 20, 2004, with the vision to Lead Teens Closer to Christ.
The main committee, which is the Core Team, consists of volunteer working adults whereas the Sub Core Team Members, are either working adults or those still studying in local higher institutions of learning.
The activities include weekly Life Night gatherings, serving at Mass, charity visits, outreaches, annual camps and much more. The weekly Life Nights are conducted every Saturday, 8pm-10pm at Room F6, Sacred Heart Parish Centre. All teens are welcome to bring along their friends, siblings or cousins to join in and learn about the Catholic faith in a fun way. -- Life Teen
