On  November 8, 2015, 40 youths from the Parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, NBVM, made their commitment to God by receiving the sacrament of Confirmation at the Eucharistic celebration presided by  the Bishop Sebastian Francis and Fr Victor Louis, our parish priest.

In his homily, the bishop stressed the importance of mission. He reiterated that, as baptised and confirmed Catholics, our mission is to proclaim the Good News to others by our lives. His homily was certainly a rich source of inspiration for all of us, the confirmands. The bishop reminded us of the many talents that we have received from God and challenged us to use these talents for the greater glory of God.

The journey to this auspicious day was not always smooth sailing. As we journeyed with our spiritual facilitators, we were encouraged to start every day as a new day where we can discover God anew and make choices to follow Him.

From attending Sunday classes regularly to  renewing ourselves during the Confirmation camp, we learnt to let go of our hurts and resentments, to forgive and be reconciled in our relationships.

The Confirmation camp was definitely a great experience for us. With guidance from God above and meaningful inputs from Martin Jalleh, our vibrant facilitator, as well as our Catechism teachers, not only were our eyes opened to wider horizons but we also learnt to appreciate ourselves as persons endowed with many talents. We were very much energized during the camp.

After the camp, we resolved to be better children of God by reaching out to, and loving others. It was a journey we will treasure for a lifetime.

Many weeks passed before we came to our red-letter day — the Confirmation day. We are very grateful for the wonderful Eucharistic celebration and the fellowship that followed, as well as for the continuous support and love we have received from our families, friends and Catechism teachers.
