 Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur

As a follow up to the Media Communique dated March 23, 2021, the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur and the Archdiocesan Crisis Management Task Force (hereafter called the Crisis Task Force), in the interest of public health safety (and having obtained his consent), would like to confirm that Msgr Leonard Lexson, the Parish Priest of the Cathedral of St John has been tested positive for COVID-19 on March 22, 2021.

It is likely that Msgr Lexson would have been infectious from Thursday, March 18, 2021. In view of the potential risk of transmission and cross infection, the Crisis Task Force would like to advise all persons who may have come into close contact (see definition below) with Msgr Lexson since Thursday March 18, 2021 to selfquarantine for 10 days from your last contact with Msgr Leonard and follow MOH advisory on testing. If you have been identified by the MOH as potentially at risk, you will be contacted by public health officials for testing.

Should you develop any symptoms (loss of sense of smell/taste, respiratory difficulties, fever or any flu-like symptoms) during self-quarantine, please proceed immediately to call the MOH Crisis Hotline for assistance.

The definition of being a close contact according to the KKM guidelines includes those  who have:

1. been within one metre of the index person for more than 15 minutes with either party not wearing a mask;

2. been physically touched by the index person. In balancing information that is of public interest versus that which is interesting to the public, the main purpose of this update is not the naming of an individual which may lead to stigmatisation, but to assist others who may be at risk through being in close contact with an individual to ensure they receive timely and appropriate health care and to prevent further transmission of COVID-19.

Msgr Leonard was admitted to hospital yesterday for observation and treatment as he displayed mild symptoms. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

For further enquiries, please send us an email at [email protected] and we will attend to you as soon as possible.

Issued on behalf of the Archdiocesan Crisis Management Task Force.
