KENINGAU:
The Diocese of Keningau joyfully anticipates the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, as declared by Pope Francis, with the theme Pilgrims of Hope. Bishop Cornelius Piong said this in a statement released December 9. “This year-long celebration presents a unique opportunity for the people of Keningau to deepen their faith and seek reconciliation with God, reinforcing their hope through His mercy and grace.”

Pope Francis’ selection of the theme Hope Does Not Disappoint in his Papal Bull Spes Non Confundit is deeply relevant to the current global challenges, including famine, disease, natural disasters, wars, and widespread disobedience to God’s will. In this time of uncertainty and suffering, the faithful are called to renew their trust in God’s healing power and abundant mercy.

The Jubilee Year in Keningau will officially begin on December 29, with the opening Mass at 10.30am at the Church of the Pusat Ziarah Keluarga Kudus Nulu Sosopon Keningau (PZKKNS). Following the launch, the pilgrimage sites will be open throughout 2025, welcoming both the people of Keningau and pilgrims from other dioceses.

At PZKKNS, several features will inspire pilgrims and strengthen their hope, including the Holy Cross Tower, the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, the statue of the Holy Family, the Stations of the Cross, and the statue of Msgr August Wachter. These sacred sites provide spiritual nourishment for those seeking a closer connection with God.

In addition to visiting PZKKNS, pilgrims can also visit the Keningau Diocese Retreat House in Tatal (RRKKT). Here, pilgrims are invited to reflect on God’s creation, particularly in the Laudato Si’ Tatal Church area, and to spend time in prayer at the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel.

The Jubilee Year is a time for renewal and spiritual growth, providing the faithful with an opportunity to overcome life’s challenges with a deepened sense of hope and faith. “The Diocese of Keningau invites all to embrace this journey of spiritual renewal, to come closer to Jesus, the Door of Salvation, and to be strengthened in their faith, hope, and love (John 10:7- 10),” said the prelate.

He ends the statement by urging everyone to “seize this moment to walk as pilgrims of hope, finding peace and joy through the sacred pilgrimage sites of the Jubilee Year 2025. Welcome to the Jubilee Year of Hope!”
