On Sunday, July 31, Archbishop Julian Leow conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 19 youths from the Church of St Thomas and 10 from the St Philip Minh Catholic Community in Kemaman, Terengganu.

The Kemaman youth were accompanied by parish administrator Fr Dionysius Matthews.

In his homily, the archbishop stressed on the importance of constantly discerning both our purpose in life and what God is asking us to do in making life’s decisions.

“The scripture readings for the day reminds us that all earthly treasures will be in vain at the end of our lives, and only our faith and good works will help prepare us for heaven,” said Archbishop Julian.

After conferring the seal of the Holy Spirit on the confirmands, the archbishop reminded them to ask the Holy Spirit to be their guide throughout their lives and to help them grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

The candidates from St Thomas parish attended a confirmation camp July 16 to 17 during which they had a one-to-one informal dialogue with their parish priest, Fr George Packiasamy. He concluded with the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

During the camp, the young people were asked to write a letter expressing their feelings about their faith journey during their catechism classes over the years and also of their expectations of the Church in the future.
