UEZON CITY: The Order of Preachers (OP) in the Philippines invites the faithful to witness the solemn opening ceremony of its Jubilee Year on Nov. 7, Saturday, 5:30 p.m., at the Santo Domingo Church, Quezon City, in solidarity with members of the Dominican family around the world.

The forthcoming event, which coincides with the “Feast of All Dominican Saints,” is in preparation of the 800th worldwide confirmation anniversary of the religious congregation in 2016.

Yearlong celebration

Themed “Sent to preach the Gospel,” the Jubilee Year marks the issuing of the Bulls promulgated by Pope Honorius III, confirming the foundation of the Order, in 1216 and 1217.

Properly speaking, it will be celebrated from Nov. 7, 2015 to Jan. 21, 2017, the date of the Bull “Gratiarum omnium largitori” of Pope Honorius III.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Dominican-run University of Santo Tomás (UST), Manila Archbishop Luís Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle is set to preside over the “Rite of Opening of the Jubilee Door” and the ensuing Eucharistic celebration in the same venue.

Indulgence offered

In line with this, Pope Francis has recently granted plenary indulgence to all who will take part in the Jubilee celebrations – while observing other necessary conditions – that will take place both internationally and in each province, an Oct. 29 article published in the Dominican website, OP.org, reports.

It adds that the privilege extends to those who will hold pilgrimages to churches and chapels of the Dominican family.

The Holy Father also asks Dominican priests to make themselves available to hear confession in all Jubilee places and administer Communion to the sick as often as possible.--CBCP News
