It was a day of joyous celebration when the parishioners of the Church of St Francis de Sales celebrated Mother’s Day on May 10. The Eucharist was celebrated by parish priest, Fr Vincent Paul. The reading for the day was very appropriate.
In his homily, he said that we can have joy anywhere but the greatest joy would be in following the teachings of Christ. He also touched on the life of Mother Mary and asked us to follow her ways at all times. He reminded us that behind every person is a mother. We are all here directly or indirectly due to the selfless love of our mothers. It is only right for us to express our deep gratitude for all that our mothers have done for us.
To make the celebration more meaningful, the ladies group of the parish organized a sale of flowers. The proceeds went towards the maintenance fund of the parish. Some bought flowers to put them at the feet of the statue of our Lady as a sign of gratitude for all that she has done for us.
The church was also filled with the East Malaysian parishioners. After the Eucharistic celebration, all mothers were invited to the front, where special blessings were bestowed upon them.
Then the East Malaysians brought in a beautiful Mother’s Day cake. A few mothers were invited to cut the cake whilst the East Malaysian choir sang a hymn honouring Mother Mary. The celebration ended with the mothers and the congregation wishing each other in the name of Jesus Christ.
