TAWAU (Herald Malaysia): The Holy Trinity Church Tawau has a large Indonesian community, made up of migrants who have become residents in this area since a long time ago. Their presence in the community has largely contributed to the growth of the Catholic faith in this parish. As a measure to maintain continuity in the growth and development of this faith community, members of the community organized the MOVE Programme. The objective is to provide motivation, counselling and guidance to the young and older Indonesian youth, as well as giving new roles and opportunities to serve the Church and the community.
One hundred and fifty youths participated in the programme. Also in attendance were Sisters Mary Liza Augustine and Mary Anita Philip from the Franciscan Congregation of Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, members of the Legion of Mary and senior members of the Indonesian community.
The programme was held at the Parish Hall of the Holy Trinity on August 2. It began with registration of the participants, praise and worship, followed by an ice-breaker and personal introduction. Among the activities that were carried out were:
-- An introduction to the Indonesian community of the Holy Trinity by Mr Gabriel Muda, Chairman of the Indonesia Community;
-- A video clip showing the different youth ministries in the Holy Trinity Parish;
-- Promotion and recognition of the Youth programmes, such as YMG and Sabah Youth Day (SYD), organized by the Parish Youth Apostolate;
-- Completing the Survey forms, feedback which will enable the organizers to know the needs of the youth and which ministry they would like to be part of.
The programme attracted many new young Indonesians and those already in service to the community and the Church. The need to organize such programmes is beneficial in the strengthening of the ties of kinship with Christ and in the growth of the faith of the community.
Although there are areas and activities that could be improved, it is the belief of the senior members of the committee, that we should continue to cultivate the culture of unity in the community.
