AMERICA: The event, which featured about 300 students from Rice Memorial, Christ the King, Mater Christi and St. Francis Xavier Schools, was held to celebrate the positive impact Chittenden County’s Catholic Schools have had on the community and to showcase unity and spirit. Every year, students from the Catholic schools serve their neighbors through many nonprofit organizations and events such as COTS, the Salvation Army, Joseph’s House, Ronald McDonald House, The Burlington Boys and Girls Club, King Street Youth Center, Mercy Connections, Meals on Wheels, The American Red Cross, Mahana Magic Foundation, CROP Hunger Walk, St. Joseph’s Residential Care, Toys for Tots, the Mitten Tree, Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf and the Winooski Food Shelf, The Lund Home, Habitat for Humanity, Vermont Special Olympics and many more.
Last year alone, Rice students did more than 20,000 hours of community service.
The students, from pre-school to high school seniors, sang and danced to a contemporary pop song, “Best Day of My Life,” and then to a Christian worship song, “Go Make a Difference.”
