We are glad to welcome the 15 Confirmands as fully and truly matured Christians through this sacrament, said the Kuala Lumpur Archbishop Julian Leow. He also asked the assembly to pray and support these Confirmands.
The Confirmation Mass was held on May 1, the feast of St Joseph the Worker, at the Chapel of St Philip Minh, where Archbishop Julian Leow presided and concelebrated with Msgr Mitchel Anthony and Fr Phillips Muthu.
In his homily, the prelate asked the Confirmands and the rest of the assembly this rhetorical question: “What are our jobs and responsibilities as Catholics and followers of Christ?” He said that we are to follow the footsteps of Christ, to do what He did and to spread the Good News, share the faith with those who have yet to know Christ. Perhaps we could also be crucified.
He then posed another question: “Can people know Jesus if they see us, as Christ-like or do we appear Satan-like?” Archbishop Julian Leow hoped all will reflect the image of Christ .
To the Confirmands, the prelate said that on receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, they will be strengthened in their faith to bring the Gospel of Christ to others.
Archbishop Julian Leow said that May 1 is also Worker’s Day. We work to build up the country, to earn a salary to care for our families. But, as employers, do you use your employees as a tool to be exploited, or see them as a creation of God, to be treated as family? “When we work, do we give our best in our jobs?” he asked.
He added that we must do things to please God and not man.“Give all to make God happy,” quipped the prelate.
Archbishop Julian Leow also hoped the confirmands (adults and some youths) will be strengthened, remain in the faith and continue to serve God. He said in some parishes, many young Confirmands are not seen again in Church until they want to get married.
Next, the Confirmands received the Sacrament from the prelate and made the Renewal of Baptismal Promises. After the celebration, Fr Phillip Muthu, the parish priest congratulated all the Confirmands and hoped they would continue the formation in faith in this Chapel.
Fr Phillips also expressed his appreciation to the prelate and Msgr Mitchel for their presence and all those who have assisted and supported in the preparation for this Confirmation Mass and fellowship. Lunch was served to all present in the hall.
