The original Pentecost of Christianity is said to have coincided with the Jewish feast called Shavuot. It marked the celebration of the “first fruits” of the harvest.
Christians also received “first fruits” of our inheritance on that original Pentecost, the Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us in No. 735, namely a pledge, “the very life of the Holy Trinity, which is to love as God (has) loved us.”
In No. 731, the catechism says, “On the day of Pentecost ... Christ’s Passover is fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, manifested, given and communicated as a divine person: Of his fullness, Christ, the Lord, pours out the Spirit in abundance.”
