The GO Mission Journey 2024, a pilgrimage across five churches in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur during Mission month, began at the Church of St Theresa, Nilai (CSTN) on October 1. Organised by the Kuala Lumpur Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Mission of New Evangelisation for Christ (AMNEC), the journey reflects Pope Francis’ theme, Go and Invite Everyone to the Banquet.
Around 120 pilgrims from various parishes within the archdiocese gathered at CSTN, joined by an equal number of local parishioners, to celebrate the feast of St Therese of Lisieux. The pilgrimage aimed to foster communion, participation, and mission among the faithful, emphasising the call to mission outlined in the Great Commission.
The event commenced at 5.00pm with a welcome address and opening prayer by CSTN parish priest, Fr Christopher Soosaipillai. Pilgrims participated in the “Little Flower Pilgrimage Walk,” a reflection on the life of St Therese presented by Jason Fernandez and Aileen Anthony from the Family Life Ministry. This was followed by praise and worship led by the Cornerstone Disciples.
The spiritual journey continued with a talk titled I am a Mission, delivered in English by Ben Savarimuthu and in Bahasa Melayu by Lucas Yong. The talks, which highlighted St Therese’s missionary spirit, encouraged pilgrims to embrace their call as missionary disciples.
The pilgrims then gathered in the church for the recitation of the Mission Rosary, led by the AMNEC team, followed by the novena to St Theresa, led by CSTN’s Liturgical Ministry. The celebrations culminated with Mass celebrated by Fr Xavier Andrew, with concelebrants Fr Raymond Pereira, Fr Edwin Peter, Fr Albet Arockiasamy, and Fr Christopher.
After Mass, the Mission month was officially launched. Fr Raymond and Fr Edwin introduced Mission month and AMNEC before unfurling the official banner, marking the launch of Mission month 2024.
Fr Christopher then explained the theme of the Holy Childhood Collection Children Helping Children. The priests presented Holy Childhood collection tins to five child representatives, symbolically launching this initiative. Children under 14 are encouraged to collect coin boxes from their parishes and return them on the Feast of the Epiphany in January 2025.
The evening ended with dinner, fellowship, and music, leaving participants inspired and motivated to continue the mission. The GO Mission Journey proceeded to the Church of St Thomas the Apostle in Kuantan on Oct 12, followed by visits to Sts Peter and Paul Church in Banting, Church of the Risen Christ in Kuala Lumpur, and Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Puchong later this month.
