PORT DICKSON: The Church of the Immaculate Conception is joining the global observance of the Season of Creation 2024 with some initiatives aimed at deepening our commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Season of Creation was launched on September 1 by the Women’s Ministry. During the launch, symbolic gifts of plants and seeds were offered, serving as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for the earth. A pledge tree was also introduced, where parishioners could commit to personal acts of creation care. Leaf-shaped pledge cards, available in multiple languages, were hung on the tree as tangible signs of our promise to protect and nurture God’s creation. Some participants were also gifted small plants and seeds to nurture at home, further symbolising the growth of both faith and care for the environment.
The parish has also organised a range of community-centred activities to promote ecological responsibility and foster a deeper connection with nature.
Key events include a Recycling Challenge, a Nature Walk with Zumba, a Planting Session, and a Donation Drive for Reusable Items. Each of these efforts seeks to inspire hope and spur concrete action, demonstrating that even the smallest steps, when undertaken in faith, can repair the damage done to our planet and bring us closer to God. --Julie Amos
