BANGALORE: A meeting of the National Biblical Catechetical & Liturgical Centre (NBCLC) has mooted the need to find ‘unfulfilled parts’ of the Vatican II agenda and implement them.
Formulating biblical responses to problems of individuals and society was another of the prominent suggestions made at the meet to mark the beginning of the golden jubilee year celebrations of the organisation found by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India in February 1967.
Addressing the 3-day meeting of theologians, biblical scholars, lay leaders and catechetical experts, numbering 45, at the NBCLC campus in Bangalore on April 12 after inaugurating the celebrations, NBCLC Chairman, Bishop Thomas Dabre of Poona recollected the organisation’s service to the Indian Church and society through evangelisation, youth movement, guidance to catechetics and lay leadership.
Bishop Dabre explained to the audience why NBCLC is called the ‘Indian Child of the Second Vatican Council’. He extolled the Centre’s contributions towards aggiornamento, proposed by Vatican II.
The meet also mooted linking Catechism and Bible study to the anthropological approach of Verbum Domini. It also deliberated on areas evangelisation needed to focus on, ecological spirituality, horizontal and vertical networking and communication, women’s role in the Church and the use of dance, music and drama in liturgy. A core committee meeting will discuss the suggestions to set the agenda of the Centre shortly.
The meet also felt the need to encourage Catholics to involve themselves in public life, participating in TV programmes and writing in national and local newspapers on national and international issues. — ucanindia.in
