In conjunction with Maal Hijrah (Awal Muharram), Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (Hulu Selangor District) organised a ‘Maal Hijrah Harmony’ dinner on July 30.

Invited guests included members from the Parish Ministry of Ecumenical & Inter-Religious Affairs (PMEIA) from the Church of the Sacred Heart, Yayasan Soka Gakkai Malaysia, Hidayah Centre Foundation and the Member of Parliament for Hulu Selangor, YB June Leow Hsiad Hui.

The dinner commenced with a talk by Shah Kirit bin Kakulal Govindji, the President of Global Unity Network (an Islamic organisation). He spoke about the importance of building a continuous brotherhood in a multi-racial and multi-religious society. He also gave a brief overview of Islam and Maal Hijrah and also highlighted some of the common religious values espoused by Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism.

PMEIA Coordinator, Dr Florence John said by participating in this dinner cum talk by the Muslim organisation, Malaysians of different faiths will have a better understanding of one another’s beliefs leading to mutual respect.

Dr Florence added that Pertubuhan IKRAM had prepared goodie bags for the 100 guests, including one each for the Sacred Heart parish priest, Msgr S. Stanilaus and Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam; both of whom were unable to attend.
