IPOH (Herald Malaysia): Mother’s Day took on a special significance this year at St Michael’s Church, as mothers paired up with their children, who were altar servers, to serve at the Mass.

Four mothers joined the altar servers to serve at the 8.00am Mass celebrated by SMC parish priest, Fr Stephen Liew, on May 10.

Mothers also took the Sunday collection.

The idea came from the altar servers who suggested they would love to see their parents serve during Mass.

According to Hubert Thong, who is advisor to the altar servers, the mothers and children practised hard for three weeks before Mother’s Day.

“Throughout the practice sessions, a deeper bond was formed between each mother and child.

“During the Mass, the co-operation, bond and trust between mother and child was clearly evident to those present,” he said.

That one hour of participating in the Holy Mass on Sunday was truly a Thanksgiving to the Lord.
