Knights of St Columba celebrate Year of Mercy

The Knights of St Columba are celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy with a series of Masses in Cathedrals across the UK.

LONDON: The Knights of St Columba are celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy with a series of Masses in Cathedrals across the UK.

With an invitation to “open your heart to God’s mercy”, the Masses aim to address the “various Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy throughout the year” by embarking on pilgrimages to the Holy Doors in Cathedrals across Britain.

Meanwhile in US, in the archdiocese of Washington, Cardinal Donald Wuerl opened the Holy Door at the Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle on Monday.

In his homily he said the Year of Mercy offers Catholics a special opportunity to receive God’s gift of mercy through the sacrament of reconciliation. God is ready to forgive us “over and over again. All we have to do is ask”.

Pope Francis has encouraged Catholics to make a pilgrimage through a Holy Door during the Year of Mercy.

The Pope said: “By crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others, as the Father has been with us.”

Saturday 27 February 2016 at 3pm in Metropolitan Cathedral of St David, Cardiff.

Saturday 23 April 2016 at 3pm in the Metropolitan Cathedral of St George, London.

Saturday 11 June 2016 at 6pm in Our Lady’s Church, Lincoln.

Saturday 18 June 2016 at 3pm The Biennial Mass for the Knights of St Columba at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool.

Saturday 9 July 2016 at St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield.

Saturday 15 October 2016 at 3pm in the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of St Chad, Birmingham.

Sunday 6 November 2016 at 10.30am in the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood, Westminster, London.
