KOTA KINABALU: The sacerdotal ordination of four friars by Archbishop John Wong was held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu on July 2, a week after the ordination of diocesan Fr Sylvester Wong.

The Kota Kinabalu prelate called friars, Gerald Terence and Crispus Mosinoh from Sandakan, Friar Sixtus Pitah from Lahad Datu, and Friar Cosmas Francis from Tambunan, to share the Word to all with joy.

“My sons, you are now to be advanced to the order of the presbyterate. You must apply your energies to the duty of teaching in the name of Christ. Meditate on the law of God, believe what you read, teach what you believe, and put to practise what you teach.

“Always remember the example of the Good Shepherd who came not to be served but to serve, and to seek out and rescue those who are lost,” said Archbishop John during his homily conveying priestly duties to the candidates.

Friar Gerard, representing the newly ordained friars, thanked the prelate for presiding over the sacred ceremony. He also extended their appreciation to Friar Derrek Yap, OFM, Regional Superior of the Franciscans in Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei, Friar Philip Miscambel, Minister Provincial of the OFM of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia, brother priests, the mentor priests, the religious, especially the FSIC sisters, family, friends and in particular, the organising team for making the rites of ordination so meaningful.

Archbishop John advised the newly ordained friars to bring love where there is hatred, and bring pardon where there is offence. “Where there is discord, may you bring union. Where there is error, bring truth. Where there is doubt, bring faith. Where there is despair, bring hope. Where there is darkness, bring your light.

Where there is sadness, bring joy. This beautiful sermon of St Francis summarises our mission on earth!”
