La Salle brother final farewell

KOTA KINABALU: Revered educator Brother Charles Michael O'Leary was given a grand farewell at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here.

Since his passing on Christmas eve at the age of 87, thousands came to pay their final respects at the SM La Salle school hall before the funeral today.

Originally from Ireland, he came to Sabah with the La Salle Brothers mission in 1958 and stayed on.

During the wake at the school hall many had also shared their testimonials and experiences in the past in commemoration of O'Leary and his 57 years of service in Sabah.

En-route to the church for the final prayers, his cortege had also moved around Tanjung Aru which was his home since he first came here in 1958.

Among the high profiled alumni members are former Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah, Huguan Siou Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, former chief ministe Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, Sabah and Sarawak Chief Judge Tan Sri Richard Malanjum among others.--NST
