The Parish Youth Apostolate of St Dominic Lahad Datu organized the first phase of preparations for the 4th Sabah Youth Day (SYD4) April 23-24, 2016 at Borneo Paradise. A total of 114 youth from the parish of St Dominic, including those from Felda, Kunak and Madai participated in the programme.

It took the participants almost an hour to travel from the Church of St Dominic to Borneo Paradise. After all the participants had arrived, they were divided into eight groups.

The programme consisted of four sessions in total. Alfian Muera conducted the first session Know Yourself. The participants were asked to evaluate themselves and to discover their own identity to enable them to participate in the mission of the Church.

Marianne led the second session on the teachings of the Church. She spoke on the lives of the saints and the seven sacraments. She also encouraged the youth to read about the lives of saints who imitated the life of Christ and those who gave up their lives for their faith.

On April 24, the participants began with morning prayers conducted by Gabriel Udin. The session began with Sr Evelyn Tivit Fsic speaking on the Family. She told the participants that the family can be seen as a ‘mini Church,’ where Christian values are instilled. It is also a sign of Christ’s presence in the family and this can be passed down into the community.

The final session was on the History of our Salvation given by Seminarian Walter Minter where he traced the origins of our salvation throughout the Bible. Before departing, the participants were given a briefing on the procedures and requirements that are to be followed during SYD-4 to be held at Holy Trinity Church Tawau on June 6-10, 2016.
