KUALA LUMPUR (Herald Malaysia): In the Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese, two students obtained A+ and 23 others A in last year’s SPM Bible Knowledge (BK). This is a vast improvement from 2011 and 2012 when we only had 7 As in our Archdiocese.
Unfortunately there has been a drastic drop in the number of students taking the exam. There were only 500 over Christian students who took BK for SPM in 2013. In 2010, we surpassed the 1,000 mark but now we are back to square one. Even for 2014 we expect about 100 Catholic students to take the exam in the Archdiocese.
With this in mind, the Kuala Lumpur Bible Apostolate (KLABA) is organising two Bible Knowledge Congresses on the Gospel of Luke for Form 4 students.
The first congress will be from Wednesday May 28 to 31 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre and the second congress will be in November. The cost is RM 150.00 per participant.
The KLABA is also organising a Teachers’ Course at district level. This course is specially designed for parents, members of the various Church ministries and catechists. There are three different categories: C – is for people who want to know more about Jesus Christ. The late Pope John Paul II’s prayer of faith emphatically states: ‘to have a deeper relation with you’ and we want to put this in action.
B – for those who want to ‘blow’ about Jesus Christ informally to neighbours, friends, relatives and children.
A - for lay teachers who want to take up the course and teach Forms 3, 4 and 5 students in their own parishes.
These courses will be on a weekend basis (Friday to Sunday evenings). It will cover two weekends in one month. Parishes are expected to purchase the three books (Gospel of St Luke, Acts of the Apostles and Exam Guide) which cost RM35.00. Read them thoroughly before attending the course.
Only requests from parish priests will be entertained. For further information, please contact G Anthony at 012-6666246.
