KUALA LUMPUR (Herald Malaysia): Here I am Lord, Use Me was the theme for the celebration of the International Day For The Differently Abled (IDD) at St Joseph’s Church on Sunday December 7. The 9.00am Mass was presided over by Archbishop Julian Leow. The celebration was organised by the Eagle’s Wing group. The Eucharistic celebration was animated by Eagle’s Wing and assisted by Wheels and Reach groups from SFX PJ, and Faith and Light Assumption PJ.

In his homily, Archbishop Leow explained that the strength of a nation lies in the way we treat the weakest in our society. He reminded the people to make the effort to reach out to the differently abled, who were the ‘treasures of the church’. The differently abled give us the opportunity to become compassionate and merciful, especially when we visit them in the hospitals and become part of their lives. Jesus our Lord and Master gives us lasting peace and we are called to bear witness to this love. The entire Mass was also “signed” by the team members. The thanksgiving hymn was a special treat as Eagle’s Wing members sang Eagle’s Wing of Hope, composed by Reena Josefa with music by Bibiana Peter. They were assisted by the choir master Gregory William and Francisca Peter, not forgetting Edward Dass who came all the way from Singapore to help on the keyboards.

A lunch followed at the community centre and a token of appreciation was given to the Archbishop by the team.
