In a post-MCO outreach programme, 13 members from the Church of St Theresa’s Kg Lapan and Taman Merdeka BECs visited Livio Learning Centre in the Portuguese Settlement October 6.

The parishioners collected contributions from their fellow BEC members and friends to present to the children at the centre.

The late Sr Dorothy Sta Maria, FDCC, started the centre in 1996 to provide free tuition for the underprivileged school-going children in the settlement. Children come to the centre in the afternoons from Monday to Friday. There are five volunteers, two Canossian Sisters, and three lay persons who guide the predominantly primary students in their studies.

Thirteen out of the 18 children were present to meet their guests. They began with a short prayer by one of the children, followed by singing several action songs. It was wonderful to see the BEC members and children participating enthusiastically as they sang Father Abraham, I love you Jesus and This Little Light of Mine.

There was also a Bible quiz where each child was given a chance to answer and receive a gift. It was lovely to see the younger ones trying their best to answer.

After a high tea fellowship, both BECs presented Sr Mary Tey, FDCC, with a donation for the centre, and tokens for the teachers.

Before the visit ended, several children expressed their thanks and said a closing prayer, giving praise and thanks to God for the lovely time they had.
