The Catechetical Ministry of Holy Redeemer Church celebrated Mothers’s Day with a different theme — a tribute to mothers who have and are still struggling with a deadly and silent killer, cancer. This theme was selected to encourage mothers to be aware of this deadly disease and to take precautions and live their lives to the fullest. Parish priest Fr Mari Arokiam officiated at the celebration by switching on the lights around the picture of our dearest Mother Mary, Heavenly Mother to all, followed by the recitation of a decade of the rosary dedicated to her.

The Fitness First team was invited. They conducted an aerobics session and continued the session with the Cancer Awareness talk.

Fr Mari reminded the children present in the hall that mothers are a gift from God to carry out his mission on earth and as children, they should cultivate good relationships with their mothers. “Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long full life in the land the LORD your God will give you” (Exodus 20:12).

A token of appreciation was given to each child to bring back to their mothers — a teaching in their hearts from Proverbs 6:20-22: “My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you: when you lie down, they will watch over you and when you awake, they will talk with you.”

The celebration ended with a closing prayer and blessing by Fr Mari.
