ROME: Catholic faithful of Myanmar would like to participate in a "live" Mass celebrated by the Pope. This celebration will be held on May 16, the solemnity of the Ascension, at 10.00, at the altar of the Chair in St. Peter's.

Since the military coup d'état in Myanmar, Francis has made numerous appeals to end the repression and to choose dialogue. Again at Easter, in the Urbi et Orbi message, he expressed his closeness to the young people of the country who "are committed to democracy, making their voices heard peacefully, aware that hatred can only be dispelled by love".

The words used at the general audience on March 17 were particularly strong: "Once again and with great sadness I feel the urgency to evoke the dramatic situation in Myanmar where many people, especially young people, are losing their lives to offer hope to their country. I too kneel on the streets of Myanmar and say: stop the violence. I too stretch out my arms and say: let dialogue prevail. Blood solves nothing. Dialogue prevails ”.

Last Sunday, speaking of the "prayer marathon" which invites people to pray the Rosary every day of the "Marian" month of May, he mentioned Myanmar, praising the initiative of the Burmese Church. "In this context - he said - there is an initiative that is very close to my heart: that of the Burmese Church, which invites us to pray for peace by reserving a daily Hail Mary of the Rosary for Maynmar. We all pray to the mother when  in need or in difficulty;  in this month, we ask our Heavenly Mother to speak to the hearts of all those responsible in Myanmar so that they may find the courage to walk the path of encounter and reconciliation and peace.".––Asia News
