In a special message delivered to all parishes in the Penang Diocese on World Mission Sunday, Bishop Sebastian Francis initiated the rite of sending in conjunction with the Diocese’s theme CALLED, CHOSEN, SENT. All baptised Catholics who have received their first Holy Communion were sent to carry out missions. These faithful who attended Mass, anointed themselves with the oil of sending and received a letter of missionary command and a mission cross, blessed by the Bishop.
Hospitality Ministers of the Parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMPH) responsed by visiting the Good Shepherd Family Home in First Garden. This Christian welfare home houses 23 children aged 4 to 19 years. It was a pleasant surprise to meet two young ladies (Inez Atienza and Joana Lucas) who are on mission from Portugal.
They are spending a month with the children, teaching them English and Maths. We had a lot of fun sharing the joy of Christ with the children. In this first visit, we have gained a fair idea of their needs and will try our best to assist them.
The next visit was on Sunday, November 16, where the members donated various necessities for the Home, followed by a tea fellowship.
