“Jesus Christ taught that man not only receives and experiences the mercy of God, but that he is also called “to practise mercy” towards others. — Pope John Paul II.
In conjunction with the Year of Mercy, the catechism ministry of St Anthony’s Church engaged in an outreach programme which aims to demonstrate Christ’s radical love through tangible acts of mercy and charity.
With spiritual guidance from Fr Francis Xavier Selvarajoo, the catechism ministry, in collaboration with Hope Mission Children Welfare Home, organized a half-day outreach programme attended by 50 children accompanied by the home’s director, Johnathan Muthal.
The programme kicked off with early morning Trinity Sunday Mass celebrated by Fr Francis. It was an interfaith event which brought together people of different faiths in the mission of Christ’s Love.
The outreach programme was based on the theme We Love You.
After Mass, there was an opening dance, followed by telematch games by the catechism children.
“It was a great experience. We are glad to be part of the programme. I am very touched by the theme chosen by the Church. Even though it’s the simplest thing ever said and done, the act of love is lacking in society,” said Johnathan.
“We are glad that the Catholic Church has reached out to the less fortunate children through this outreach programme,”
he added.
Fr Francis was happy that the Catechism Ministry has set an example by being “Jesus in Disguise” by not only committing themselves but also involving the catechism children in getting to know the importance of reaching out to others who are in need.
The half day event concluded with lunch prepared by the catechists.
