The various ministries under the PIHDM of Good Shepherd Church, came together to raise funds to assist the migrants and the Orang Asli under their purview. A jumble and breakfast sale was held simultaneously from 8.00am to 2.00pm on April 6 for this cause. A total profit of RM5,264.20 and RM1,194.60 was made respectively. This is the second consecutive year this event is being hosted.

Bernie Chin, the Head of the Migrant Ministry was very pleased that this annual event is getting the attention and full support of GSC parishioners. The proceeds from the sale will assist the ministry to further reach out to the migrants’ needs. The Ministry currently looks into the welfare of the Myanmarese Migrant Community Centres at Setapak and Bukit Bintang. All surplus items were sent to orphanages and distributed to the needy.

The breakfast sale that was held concurrently also garnered the attention of hungry parishioners. Surplus food was donated to the nearby orphanage, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary. This was organised by the GSC OA Ministry to support its ongoing efforts of adult literacy classes, English reading programme and medical mission outreach to the OA community within the vicinity. This ministry provides stationary and school supplies for OA children, nutritional food and grooming supplies for OA families and assists in repairs and maintenance of OA kindergartens and centres.

Parish priest, Fr VA Michael was thrilled that the parishioners were very supportive of the activities. This year being the 50th anniversary of GSC, many programmes are being planned to reach out to the poor and marginalised. “The proclamation of the Gospel is destined primarily for the poor, to those who often lack the essentials for a decent life. The good news is first announced to them, that God loves them before all others and comes to visit them through the acts of charity that the disciples of Christ carry out in His name. By virtue of our baptism, we as Christ’s disciples are bound to carry on this mission,” he said.
