Police return seized ‘Allah’ hymn books

Nearly two weeks after the seizure of hymn books containing the word “Allah”, Johor police have returned all 31 copies to Fr Cyril Mannayagam.

KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly two weeks after the seizure of hymn books containing the word “Allah”, Johor police have returned all 31 copies to Fr Cyril Mannayagam.

Fr Cyril confirmed the return of the books that were intended for the Christians in the Orang Asli community in Bekoh. The books use the Arabic word for God.

“I believe that the case is settled as the police have returned the books to us.

“Furthermore the books only contains songs that praise God used by the Orang Asli who are Catholics,” the priest was quoted as saying, adding that the indigenous Orang Asli community use Bahasa Malaysia to communicate.

After collecting the books, Fr Cyril was reported saying he had explained to the police that the books were designed by the Orang Asli community for their own religious use.

Fr Cyril said that the police had asked him to personally retrieve the confiscated books ? Mari Kita Memuji Allah Kita or Praise Be To God ? from the Tangkak police station. --Malay Mail Online
