KUALA LUMPUR: About 150 Catholic doctors, lawyers, teachers, religious, ambassadors as well as other professionals gathered at the Auditorium Soter at Stella Maris School in Medan Damansara to be enlightened by the Joy of the Gospel an encyclical by Pope Francis. The programme was organised by the Catholic Doctors’ Association Malaysia, the Catholic Lawyers’ Society and the Catholic Teachers’ Association Malaysia.

The theme Living the Joy of the Gospel Daily was facilitated by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow. The three sessions were: Amidst the Crises of Today’s World, The Gospel of Jesus Christ and The Social Dimension of a Missionary Disciple. It was a fruitful journey on an educational document which touched the hearts of the participants who would now go out and spread the message of the Gospel in their area of work.

In his welcome address Dr. S. Anthonysamy, President of the Catholic Doctors Association Malaysia and Chairman of the programme, emphasised that the local church under His Grace would certainly achieve great heights.

“We, Catholic professionals, must always be ready to respond to the call of the Gospel to spread the good news through our work. This is the reform of the Church in her missionary outreach to the poor and the marginalised. Let us work together as one people of God, be involved and supportive whilst bearing fruit and rejoicing” he said.

Allen Pereira, President of the Catholic Lawyers’ Society, in his closing remarks said that it was the first time the Catholic doctors, lawyers and teachers have come together to organise such an event. He hoped more programmes would be organised in future. --CNA
