A group of teachers from Sekolah Rendah Stella Maris (Ampang) visited the children of Kampung Mongkos on Gawai (June 1).
The teachers brought with them 17 boxes of books, toys and stationery, a collection of gifts from the students of Stella Maris to the children of Kampung Mongkos. They spent two hours interacting with the longhouse children, which included an hour long planned lesson that was both educational and entertaining.
This educational programme was initiated by the teachers to encourage children to reach out to children across the ocean, and for teachers and children to learn from each other.
The project, which took six months of planning, was a success, proven by the joyful smiles of the teachers and the Kampung Mongkos children. It was an invaluable experience for all.
The journey and experience was documented for posterity and will be used as a teaching aid.
The students of Stella Maris (Ampang) will learn of the story and journey of their gifts. More importantly, they will experience the joy of reaching out and connecting with children across the country.
