KOTA SAMARAHAN:
The spirit of multiculturalism and religious harmony shone brightly as a large crowd came together for the Christmas parade and celebration in Samarahan on December 8, 2024. This marked the first event of its kind since the pandemic, with the parade weaving through the streets from the Church of St Francis to Farley Supermarket, uniting participants and spectators in a joyous display of unity and festive cheer.

Themed Peace Be With You, the event was organised by the Sarawak Association of Churches Samarahan Branch (ACSSB), and hosted by the Methodist Church. With 700 church members from various denominations participating, the parade also attracted approximately 800 enthusiastic spectators, creating a vibrant and inclusive celebration.

The celebration kicked off with a worship service led by Reverend Steward Damat from the Sarawak Iban Annual Conference Methodist Church, who delivered a heartfelt sermon on the birth of Jesus Christ, emphasising that “His love is meant to transform lives and inspire hope across generations.”

A dynamic programme featured captivating choir performances, lively dance shows, and a highly anticipated lucky draw. Each activity showcased contributions from different denominational churches under the ACSSB, highlighting the collective spirit and diversity of the Christian community.

In a media release, the organisers underscored the event’s dual purpose: to spread the message of Christmas joy and peace while fostering community cohesion and celebrating the harmonious coexistence of the diverse Samarahan community.

The organisers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and participation, emphasising that the celebration transcended religious observance. It stood as a testament to the shared values of peace, love, and community harmony that define the spirit of Samarahan. --Dayak Daily
