MELAKA: The Catholic Seniors Fellowship (CSF) of the Parish of St Peter and St Francis Xavier extended a warm and generous hand of friendship across the miles to the Church of St Bernadine, Brisbane, Australia with the handing over of vestments for altar servers by Parish Priest Fr Michael Mannayagam to Alfred Silva.

The Church of St Bernadine is a small church which is being gradually upgraded by committed parishioners.

Alfred, formerly from Melaka but now a resident in Australia, asked the CSF for help in getting vestments from Melaka. At present, the altar servers do not wear liturgical vestments whilst serving at the Eucharistic Celebration. Margaret Yap from Melaka but now also residing in Brisbane, tried to source for these vestments from Australia but found them too expensive for the small suburban church in Brisbane.

The CSF tried to source for these at lower cost from Melaka. Moreover, CSF has received generous donations for its Poor and Needy Fund from well-wishers in Brisbane and, hence, the Committee did not hesitate to return the gesture.

Twelve sets of vestments (six in red and six in white, each overlaid by a white surplice) were ordered and handed over at a simple luncheon ceremony on Aug 30, 2015.
