SANDAKAN (Herald Malaysia): Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Catholic students were showered again with Jesus’ love when the Star of Yahweh Covenant Community (SYCC) warmly welcomed and feted them to a luncheon fellowship and gathering on Sunday, Sept 6. SYCC is doing its bit to bring Jesus to others, especially to those who may encounter difficulty in organizing faith formation sessions in their institutions.
Thirty-six students and two teachers-in-charge attended the fellowship at the Parish Hall right after the Sunday morning Eucharistic celebration at St Mary’s Cathedral. The Good News proclaimed was wonderful and uplifting and re-energized the youth. Indeed, the Gospel (Mark 7:21-37) tells us to go forth, preach and bear witness, be proud and eager to share the truths of Christ.
Fr Sunny Chung, the assistant rector of St Mary’s Cathedral Parish shared with joy about the “Lordship of Jesus.” He asked the students these questions: What do you feel when you see Jesus suffering? What do you feel when you see Jesus who has the power to perform miracles? Who is Jesus to you? He emphasized that Jesus is seeking us. He wants to draw us to Him. Jesus is the all-powerful God who became man as in John 8:19, “I am who I am” reflecting Himself as God. Obviously, our faith is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. He also encouraged the students to have the courage to change what the world may not be able to change. He quoted the late St John Paul II asking the youth to be agents of change. Thus, we are called to be bearers of the Good News to others through our words and actions in our daily life.
Spinster Ngayen who studied in UITM Shah Alam, Selangor and was actively involved in Catholic students’ activity shared on his personal experience on ‘Campus Life.’ He said that campus life is also part of God’s calling. God calls us because He has a purpose for our life. We know how God is calling us when we have a personal relationship with Him. Consistent prayer should be practised among students so that they can strengthen their faith and create a good bond with God by reading the Bible often.
After the sharing sessions, students were served lunch. The coming together provided a platform for the students to interact with the local parishioners, making them feel more at home.
