CHERAS: The halls of the Little Sisters of the Poor (LSP) echoed with the sounds of joyful Christmas carols, as altar servers from the Church of the Sacred Heart (SHC) and Chapel of Our Lady of Good Health (OLGH) together with the Legion of Mary visited the elderly residents to spread the Christmas cheer.
The day kicked off with a lively carol session. The young altar servers, joined by the devoted Legion of Mary, sang beloved Christmas songs, filling the air with festive cheer. The elderly residents were visibly touched by the presence and energy of the group.
One elderly resident shared her gratitude, saying, “You all made my Christmas a great beginning, come again and I love you.” Her words, simple yet profound, spoke to the essence of the morning — how small acts of kindness can have an immeasurable impact on the hearts of others.
Thereafter, the group joined the residents for a joyous cake-cutting ceremony, a sweet celebration where smiles and laughter filled the room as both the young and the elderly exchanged stories and reflected on the meaning of Christmas.
The celebration continued with a tour of the LSP compound, led by one of the nuns. The group explored the peaceful surroundings, taking in the beautiful gardens and cozy corners where the elderly spend their days. It was a chance to learn more about the incredible work being done at LSP, as well as the meaningful lives being nurtured within its walls.
The day was filled with emotional moments and deep connections, marking a beautiful start to the Christmas season. As the group left, they carried with them not just the joy of the holiday, but also the love and warmth shared between generations.
Christmas, as it turned out, began with much more than decorations and gifts. It began with the happiness, joy, and kindness of community — and for the residents of LSP, this visit from the SHC and OLGH Altar Servers and the Legion of Mary was a Christmas gift they won’t soon forget.
