May 30 2021 marked one of the important celebrations in the Catholic calendar, the patronal feast day for the Korean priests from the Clerical Society of the Most Holy Trinity of Mirinae South Korea, serving in Woori Jib Potuki.

As the feast day also coincided with Kaamatan festival here, the local parishioners attended the Mass in their traditional KDM attire.

Unlike past years, it was a solemn double celebration as the SOP at the time, only allowed 50 people to attend in any one church service. Nevertheless, the Potuki choir group has added colour to the celebration with hymns sang in multi-language including Korean language, alongside with the beating of traditional instrument ‘Togunggak’.

Fr Andrew Kim Youngjung who presided the Mass said as the Church celebrates the Solemnity, it is true that it is difficult to understand and explain the Trinity.

“The term Trinity itself is indeed difficult to understand with the power of human reason.

“The mystery of the Trinity is difficult to understand by our reason, but if we continue to confess God based on faith, we will realize it.

“We firmly believe and confess without reservation that there is only one true God…the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; three persons indeed, but one essence, substance or nature entirely simple.

“The Trinity Mystery is the mystery of love, the God of love and peace always be with us, so we must strive to live a life in harmony with God in grace, love and communion,” said Fr Kim.

The Clerical Society of the Most Holy Trinity of Mirinae has been serving in Potuki under St Michael Penampang parish since 2016.

Fr Kim said it was difficult at first to adapt to the culture and the local environment but he confessed that with the help and hospitality of the local Potuki community, the Korean priests managed to gradually adapt themselves until today.
