The Confirmation class of St Michael’s Church Ipoh, presented a special song for all fathers after Mass on June 21.
Despite a shaky start, the students were encouraged when the congregation at SMC applauded them and just kept going, even when the taped background music teetered off and stopped for a while.
Singing to the fathers present, the small group of ten teenagers, sang “You are my Hero” slightly off-key, and it was evident that some of them felt it was one of the scarier things they had ever done.
Yet it was the small imperfections that made the whole thing more enjoyable, because it made just about everyone smile.
The song outlined what fathers do — as role models, they offer teaching on truth, faith, and love, and the meaning of being a family.
It spoke of fathers being role models, and how fathers affect all aspects of their children’s lives, in how we treat ourselves, how we relate to others, work, play and face the challenges of life.
Afterwards, they presented all fathers there with a small handmade gift, a paper tie, and wished them a Happy Father’s day.
SMC priest-in-residence, Fr Robin Andrews, blessed all fathers present, before the final blessing. —
