KUALA PILAH: During the last school holidays in September, St Theresa’s Altar Servers (STARS), Melaka, organized a team-building outing to Ulu Bendul Waterfall, Kuala Pilah. Servers from the Chapel of St Martin, Gading, also joined the group. A total of 45 people, including 15 adult chaperons, gathered in the wee hours of the morning, in order to arrive early and avoid the usual holiday crowds.
We arrived at Ulu Bendul at about 8.00am. We were delighted to find a nice shelter equipped with BBQ pit and a water pipe next to it. The kids were eager to jump into the stream which was teeming with little fish. After breakfast, Uncle Tim took a group on a nature hike, while the other adults prepared the BBQ lunch.
After lunch, the group were broken into four teams for some fun team-building games. Among the games played were Angel Face (using the mouth to search for sweets in a bowl of flour), Tower of God (to build the tallest, strongest and most secured tower with a crucifix, using only a pack of 500 straws), Egyptian Bondage (with strings tied to their hands, participants must release themselves by crawling over, bending under and twisting 360?) and From Heaven to Earth (balancing act working together to bring the pole from above to the ground). The winning team received a large hamper, which they shared with everyone.
After the telematches, some decided to have tea/coffee and cakes while the rest continued to play in the man-made pool and on the slides nearby. We cleaned up, showered and packed by 5.00 pm, and headed home for St Teresa’s Church. It was indeed a fun-filled, entertaining and eventful day for all the 45 servers and adult chaperons. — By Peter Nigel Ng
