LAHAD DATU (Herald Malaysia): The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated at the Church of St Dominic on Sunday, Nov 8 at 11.00am for 130 confirmands. The Mass was also attended by approximately 600 people, including family and friends of the candidates.
Concelebrating with Bishop Julius Gitom were Fr Simon Kontou and Fr Marcelinus Pongking. In his homily, Bishop Julius reminded the congregation that a close relationship with God enables us to participate in Christ’s vision and mission.
A close relationship with Him will result in genuine and sincere hearts, to always be generous in participating in evangelizing the word of Christ. In service, we extend the Kingdom of God and we must be ready to share our wealth, time and talent.
Referring to the construction of St Dominic’s Parish Centre, Bishop Julius said, “That is a blessing we receive from God when we are united with Him to make our dream into reality. Nothing is impossible if we leave everything to Almighty God.”
He continued, saying, “Christian families are a new tool that can become pillars of evangelization. St Peter used nets to catch fish, but nowadays, God uses families to catch men. This means that evangelization must begin with our own families.”
Finally, Bishop Julius reminded the confirmands that receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation is not the end of our faith journey, but rather, the beginning of our journey to deepen, grow and mature in our faith.
