The Chuch of the Holy Name of Jesus in Balik Pulau

Dear clergy, religious and lay faithful of  Penang Island,

Greetings of the risen Lord! As we are all  aware, the recent government announcement has placed the Northeast District  (Daerah Timur Laut) and Mukim 12 of the  Southwest District (Daerah Barat Daya) of  Penang Island under the Movement Control Order (MCO) from 10th May to 23rd  May 2021.

With these considerations, we the parish priests of the following parishes  have decided that public Masses will be  suspended from 10th May to 23rd May  2021:

–– Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Green  Lane
–– City Parish, Penang (OLS, SFX, SJB  and AC in George Town)
–– Church of the Immaculate Conception, Pulau Tikus
–– Church of the Risen Christ, Air Itam
–– Church of Divine Mercy, Sungai Ara

In addition to that, the Church of the  Holy Name of Jesus in Balik Pulau which  remains under the Conditional Movement  Control Order (CMCO), is not affected by  the latest restrictions. The parish therefore  will continue to have celebration of public Masses under strict SOPs stipulated by  MKN.

For administering of the Sacraments  such as Weddings, Funerals, Confessions,  Anointing of the Sick or Holy Communion, please contact your respective parish  priests for further details. Parishioners  are also reminded that the live-streaming  of weekday and weekend Masses by the  parishes of Penang Island, will continue  for the spiritual benefit of the faithful. You  may refer to the respective parishes for the  Mass timings.

We would like to urge all parishioners to  remain vigilant and maintain a high level  of self-discipline in contributing towards  the battle against COVID-19. Please abide  by all regulations and stay home as much  as possible. Above all, let us heed the call  of Pope Francis and seek the intercession  of Our Lady during this month of May; for  an end to the pandemic and crisis.

Together with you in prayer,

Msgr Aloysius Tan
(Parish Priest of City Parish, Penang)

Fr Joachim Robert
(Parish Priest of Cathedral of the Holy  Spirit, Green Lane)
