TAWAU: The annual Tawau Inter-Church Christmas decorations and lighting ceremony, hosted by the Church of the Holy Trinity, officially launched the festive season in the community.
Rev Hendrik Linggiallo, chairman of the Tawau Churches Committee, was represented by Fr David Garaman during the ceremony. He emphasised the event’s significance in promoting unity, brotherhood, and kindness among community members, highlighting that these values transcend backgrounds and beliefs.
“Christmas is a time to remember the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, who brought light to a dark world,” Fr David stated. “Just as the lights around us illuminate the night sky, we are called to be lights in our communities, shining with love, kindness, and compassion.”
The cleric further remarked, “The decorations and lights seen tonight symbolise the warmth and joy of the season, serving as a reminder that hope persists even in challenging times, and light will always triumph over darkness.”
The event showcased the collaboration among various churches, local communities, and authorities. Fr David extended his gratitude to the host church, Holy Trinity, and the committee members for their efforts in creating the decorations and orchestrating the event.
He also acknowledged the critical support from several key organisations that contributed to the ceremony’s success, including the Tawau Municipal Council, for allowing the decoration of the roundabout, the Public Works Department (JKR) for facilitating road use and safety preparations, and the Tawau District Police for ensuring the event’s safety.
In closing, Fr David thanked everyone in attendance and wished all a blessed Christmas, encouraging all to let the light of Christ shine brightly in their hearts and communities.
