At the Catholic Mission, Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Most Rev Julian Leow, administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 32 candidates, on November 7 at the Friday Morning Mass. Archbishop Leow presided at the Mass, concelebrating with Fr Phillips Muthu, the parish priest.
The candidates were from Kuala Terengganu, and two Chapels in Dungun and Kemaman (under the jurisdiction of the Catholic Mission).
In his homily, Archbishop Leow reminded the confirmands of their communion with the Catholic Church. The celebration of the sacrament was apt, as it was held on the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, that falls on the 32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time. The prelate went on to say that being in communion with the Church means to be aligned with the Teachings of the Catholic Church, the sacraments and to be in union with the Church authorities.
Archbishop Leow also reminded the confirmands that, with the Sacrament of Confirmation comes the Mission to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to one another, to bring respect, tolerance, love, healing and unity. By that, the prelate said, they will fulfill being Christians in this world.
Since his recent episcopal ordination on Oct 6, Archbishop Leow told the assembly that the administrating of the Sacrament of Confirmation was his first. Fr Phillips thanked Archbishop Leow for his presence and for administrating the sacrament. The confirmands, together with the prelate and Fr Phillips, later posed for a group photo after Mass. The faithful were also eager to meet the new Archbishop.
