It was a grace-filled morning for 32 Catholics, consisting of 21 students from the Sunday School and 11 adults, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the 7.30am Mass, on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, at the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist.
His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow presided over the Mass. In his homily, he asked the Confirmands to take their Catholic faith seriously and to defend it. Archbishop Leow also called on them to be active Catholics. The prelate said, “The Holy Spirit will enlighten you more and more to know the fullness of the message of Jesus. The Spirit assists us when we face persecution and helps us to defend our faith as Christians in the world.” The prelate called on the Confirmands to go out and to share the Good News.
“Today, you will receive the Confirmation that you have been prepared for, to become adult Catholics. You will reaffirm the faith of your parents, given to you at your baptism. You will also reaffirm your faith in the Creed on our belief.”
At the Rite of Confirmation, the prelate administered the sacrament to the Confirmands, anointing their foreheads with Chrism, as the Confirmands received the same Spirit that brought the Church to birth, some 2,000 years ago.
The assembly also prayed for the Confirmands to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and to become true disciples of Christ.
Parish priest, Msgr Lexson called on the Confirmands to continue deepening their faith and to serve in the parish.
